in God we Trust (Husn-Dhunn)

قال الله عز وجل: {اللَّهُ لَطِيفٌ بِعِبَادِهِ} الشورى 19. ـ

God -the Exalted- says: { God is very gracious and kind to His slaves} (surah 42, verses 19).

وقال الله عز وجل: {فَقُلْ رَبُّكُمْ ذُو رَحْمَةٍ وَاسِعَةٍ} الأنعام 147. ـ

God -the Exalted- also says: { Say (O Muhammad): You Lord is the Owner of vast mercy} (surah 6, verses 147).

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال : سمِعْتُ رسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلَّم يقول : « جَعَلَ اللَّهُ الرَّحْمَةَ مائَةَ جُزْءٍ، فَأَمْسَكَ عِنْدَهُ تِسْعَةً وتِسْعِينَ، وَأَنْزَلَ في الأَرْضِ جُزْءَا واحِداً، فَمِنْ ذَلِكَ الجُزْءِ يَتَراحمُ الخَلائِقُ حَتَّى تَرْفَعَ الدَّابَّةُ حَافِرَهَا عَنْ ولَدِهَا خَشْيَةَ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُ» . ـ

وفي روايةٍ : « إِنَّ للَّهِ تَعَالى مائَةَ رَحْمَةٍ أَنْزَلَ مِنْهَا رَحْمَةً وَاحِدَةً بَيْنَ الجِنِّ والإِنْسِ وَالبَهَائمِ وَالهَوامِّ، فَبهَا يَتَعاطَفُونَ، وبها يَتَراحَمُونَ، وَبها تَعْطِفُ الوَحْشُ عَلى وَلَدهَا، وَأَخَّرَ اللَّهُ تَعالى تِسْعاً وتِسْعِينَ رَحْمَةً يَرْحَمُ بها عِبَادهُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ» . متفقٌ عليه . ـ

Narrated Abu Hurairah -may God be pleased with him- that the Prophet -prayer and peace be upon him- said: “There are one hundred (parts of) mercy for God, and He has sent down out of these parts, one part of mercy upon the jinn and the humans and the animals and the insects.  And it is because of this (one part) that they show kindness and mercy to one another and even the beast treats its young one with affection, and God has reserved ninety-nine parts of mercy with which He would treat His slaves with mercy on the Day of Judgment.”  Related by Imam Muslim.

وعن عمرَ بنِ الخطاب ، رضي اللَّهُ عنه ، قال : قَدِمَ رسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلَّم بِسَبْي فَإِذَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ السَّبْي تَسْعَى ، إِذْ وَجَدتْ صبيًّا في السبْي أَخَذَتْهُ فَأَلْزَقَتْهُ بِبَطْنِها ، فَأَرْضَعَتْهُ ، فقال رسُولُ اللَّه صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلَّم : « أَتُرَوْنَ هَذِهِ المَرْأَةَ طارِحَةً وَلَدَهَا في النَّارِ ؟ قُلْنَا : لاَ وَاللَّهِ . فَقَالَ : «للَّهُ أَرْحمُ بِعِبادِهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ بِولَدِهَا » متفقٌ عليه. ـ

Narrated Omar Ibn Al-Khattab -may God be pleased with him- said: “Some Sabi (i.e. war prisoners, children and woman only) were brought before the Prophet -prayer and peace be upon him.  And behold, a woman amongst them was milking her chest to feed, and whenever she found a child amongst the captives, she would take the child and nurse him.  Then she found her own baby boy, so she took him over her chest and nursed him. The prophet -prayer and peace be upon him- said to us: ‘Do you think that this lady could throw her baby boy in the fire?’  We replied: ‘No, if she has the power not to throw him in the fire.’  So the prophet -prayer and peace be upon him- said: ‘Verily, God is more merciful to His slaves than this lady to her son.’ ”  Related by Al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim.

            عَن جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رضي الله عنه قَالَ: ( سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلَّم قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ يَقُولُ : « لَا يَمُوتَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يُحْسِنُ الظَّنَّ بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ»).  رواه مسلم وأبو داود وابن ماجه. ـ

Narrated Jabir Ibn Abdil-God Ansari -may God be pleased with them- said: “I heard the Messenger of God -prayer and peace be upon him- say three days before his death: ‘None of you should die except while having trust in God -the Almighty.’ ”  Related by Imam Muslim, Abu Dawood, and Ibn Majah.

 


 

 

God -the Exalted- mentions that truly He is the Most Merciful One.  None is equal to Him in His Mercy, in His kindness, and in His compassion and Forgiveness.  And in the hadeeth, the Prophet -prayer and peace be upon him- mentions that God created 100 parts of mercy.  He let one part down on earth, and kept 99 parts of the mercy with Him.

The effect of this one part of mercy is that the mother is ready to sacrifice herself for her baby, the father is ready to sacrifice his money and possessions for his child, the children take care of their parents, relatives like each other, and people feel mercy toward each other.  That is only One part of mercy!

Then, imagine if there were 99 parts of mercy, what would be the level of mercy, the level of kindness, the level of compassion, and the level of forgiveness!  Indeed, God has kept the other 99 parts mercy for Himself.  And the mercy of God could never be compared to the mercy of humans.  God’s mercy knows no bound, no limit, is eternal and encompasses all.

God -the Exalted- has special mercy for the Muslims.  Then His mercy is even greater; greater than the mercy of the mother for her child!  And the more righteous the person is; the more God shows mercy toward him.  Such that God -the Almighty- shows delight when the Muslim repents of his sin, just out of mercy for the slave, otherwise God is never affected by the actions of the slaves.  But God shows delight out of His supreme mercy and kindness.


 

Knowing the high level and unimaginable degree of God’s mercy makes the Muslim have trust in God.  It makes him have husn-Dhunn with God.  The Muslim trusts God fully.  The Muslim believes that the mercy of God is vast, is huge, is limitless, and knows no bound.

When the Muslim starts to truly comprehend a little bit of that and believes that firmly, then he starts to have a high degree of hope that indeed God would be kind to me too, and God will show mercy toward me too.  And this is called Husn-Dhunn or trust in God -the Exalted.

The believer believes fully that God will treat him with mercy and kindness in both this world and the Hereafter.  In this world, by solving his problems and granting him blessings, and in the Hereafter by letting him enter Paradise and sparing him Hell. And that is called Husn-Dhunn or trust in God -the Exalted.


 

The believer values this trust in God, and struggles to do more.  So you find him doing more righteous deeds, and you find him trying to get a greater share of that mercy.  While those with weak faith, do just the opposite.  They do sins and get away from God while thinking that God is the Most Merciful.

The Example of that is like $1000.  Suppose, someone gave you $1000.  So you either invest it wisely and multiply it and then spend from it.  Or you spend it carelessly until you have very little left.

The same thing applies to trust.  If you invest it, by doing good deeds and avoiding sins then you gain an even higher level of that trust.  But if you do sins and invoke that mercy, then you are decreasing the level of that trust without even realizing.

So the Muslim should try his best and then expect the best!  Or at least he should struggle and try what he can, and have trust in God, that God -the Most Generous- would be merciful to him.


 

Know that husn-Dhunn or trust in God is one of the Best righteous deeds of the Muslim.  Some saliheen was dying and he was asked: What is your best deed that you will present before God?  He replied: My Husn-Dhunn (trust) of my Lord.

And let that be a lesson for us.  Indeed, husn-Dhunn or trust in God is one of the greatest ways of entering Paradise.  For God -the Exalted- says in hadeeth qudsee: ‘I am like My slave trusts Me.’

So the more trust you have in God, the more mercy and kindness God will show toward you.

Then, a Muslim must always have husn-Dhunn or trust in God.  His husn-Dhunn or trust in God should exceed by far the trust of the little baby toward his mother.  And his husn-Dhunn or trust in God should far exceed his trust in anyone or anything else.

Know that husn-Dhunn or trust in God is one of the greatest good and righteous deeds.  Indeed, if a Muslim has full husn-Dhunn or trust in God, then God will show him mercy and kindness accordingly and let him enter Paradise.  And God knows best.
