‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up."

‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ كانوا قد طلبوا أن ينزل عليهم كسفاً من السماء، فالمعنى أنهم لو رأوا الكسف ساقطاً عليهم لبلغ بهم الطغيان والجهل والعناد أن يقولوا: ليس بكسف وإنما هو سحاب مركوم: أي كثيف بعضه فوق بعض.

‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -

‏‏‏‏‏ منسوخ بالسيف ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ يعني يوم القيامة والصعقة فيه هي النفخة الأولى، وقيل: غير ذلك والصحيح ما ذكرنا لقوله في المعارج [٤٤] عن يوم القيامة.
