Short and steady — the plain meaning, with the reports that bear on it and little else.

Al-Aḥzāb 33:67 Juzʾ 22 Page 427

‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

And they will say, "Our Lord, indeed we obeyed our masters and our dignitaries, and they led us astray from the [right] way.

Read in the muṣḥaf

قَوْله تَعَالَى: ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَقُرِئَ: " سَادَاتنَا "، وَقَوله: ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ هم الْأَشْرَاف ورءوس النَّاس.

قَوْله: ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَي: السَّبِيل، وَمَعْنَاهُ: صدونا عَن طَرِيق الْحق.
