Short and steady — the plain meaning, with the reports that bear on it and little else.

Al-Fatḥ 48:22 Juzʾ 26 Page 513

‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

And if those [Makkans] who disbelieve had fought you, they would have turned their backs [in flight]. Then they would not find a protector or a helper.

قَوْله تَعَالَى: ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ أَي: انْهَزمُوا وَكَانَ الظفر لَهُم.

وَقَوله: ‏‏ ‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ قد بَينا من قبل.
