Short and steady — the plain meaning, with the reports that bear on it and little else.

Al-Māʾidah 5:104 Juzʾ 7 Page 125

‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

And when it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger," they say, "Sufficient for us is that upon which we found our fathers." Even though their fathers knew nothing, nor were they guided?

﴿وَإِذا قيل لَهُم تَعَالَوْا إِلَى مَا أنزل الله وَإِلَى الرَّسُول﴾ يَعْنِي: إِذا دعوا إِلَى الْكتاب وَالسّنة ﴿قَالُوا حَسبنَا مَا وجدنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا﴾ يَعْنِي: كفانا دين آبَائِنَا ﴿أَو لَو كَانَ آباؤهم لَا يعلمُونَ شَيْئا وَلَا يَهْتَدُونَ﴾ .
