Short and steady — the plain meaning, with the reports that bear on it and little else.

Ash-Shūrā 42:44 Juzʾ 25 Page 487

‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏

And he whom Allah sends astray - for him there is no protector beyond Him. And you will see the wrongdoers, when they see the punishment, saying, "Is there for return [to the former world] any way?"

Read in the muṣḥaf

وَقَوله تَعَالَى: ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَي: يضلله الله.

وَقَوله: ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَي: لَا يجد من بعد الله من يهديه.

وَقَوله: ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ أَي: من رُجُوع إِلَى الدُّنْيَا ليتوب.
