‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allah took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allah] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

Read in the muṣḥaf

قَوْلُهُ تَعالى: ‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ في المِيثاقِ قَوْلانِ: أحَدُهُما: أنَّهُ أخَذَ مِيثاقَ النَّبِيِّينَ أنْ يَأْخُذُوا عَلى قَوْمِهِمْ بِتَصْدِيقِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ، وهَذا قَوْلُ عَلِيٍّ، وابْنِ عَبّاسٍ، وقَتادَةَ، والسُّدِّيِّ.

والثّانِي: أنَّهُ أخَذَ مِيثاقَهم لَيُؤْمِنُنَّ بِالآخِرَةِ، وهَذا قَوْلُ طاوُسٍ.

‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ يَعْنِي مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ. ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ يَعْنِي مِنَ التَّوْراةِ، والإنْجِيلِ.

‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ والإصْرُ: العَهْدُ، وفِيهِ تَأْوِيلانِ: أحَدُهُما: مَعْناهُ: قَبِلْتُمْ عَلى ذَلِكَ عَهْدِي.

والثّانِي: أخَذْتُمْ عَلى المُتَّبِعِينَ لَكم عَهْدِي.

‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ يَعْنِي عَلى أُمَمِكم بِذَلِكَ.

‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ عَلَيْكم، وعَلَيْهِمْ.(p-٤٠٧)
