‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏، كَفَرُوا،

‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏، في الدُنْيا، اسْتِهْزاءً بِهِمْ.

‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏‏، يُشِيرُ بَعْضُهم إلى بَعْضٍ بِالعَيْنِ، طَعْنًا فِيهِمْ، وعَيْبًا لَهُمْ، قِيلَ: «جاءَ عَلِيٌّ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - في نَفَرٍ مِنَ المُسْلِمِينَ، فَسَخِرَ مِنهُمُ المُنافِقُونَ، وضَحِكُوا، وتَغامَزُوا، وقالُوا: أتَرَوْنَ هَذا الأصْلَعَ؟! فَنَزَلَتْ قَبْلَ أنْ يَصِلَ عَلِيٌّ إلى رَسُولِ اللهِ - ﷺ ».

And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ أيْ: إذا رَجَعَ الكُفّارُ إلى مَنازِلِهِمْ،

‏‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏، مُتَلَذِّذِينَ بِذِكْرِهِمْ، والسُخْرِيَةِ مِنهُمْ، وقَرَأ غَيْرُ حَفْصٍ: "فاكِهِينَ"، أيْ: فَرِحِينَ.

‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏ ‏‏ ‏‏‏‏ ‏‏‏‏‏‏ ‏

And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

But they had not been sent as guardians over them.
